A Universal Fuzzy Logic Optical Water Type Scheme for the Global Oceans

The classification of natural waters is a way to generalize and systematize ocean color science. However, there no consensus on an optimal water template in many contexts. In this study, we conducted unsupervised the PACE (Plankton, Aerosols, Cloud, Ocean Ecosystem) synthetic hyperspectral data set, divided global into 15 classes, then obtained set fuzzy logic optical type schemes (abbreviated as U-OWT study) that were tailored for several multispectral satellite sensors, including SeaWiFS, MERIS, MODIS, OLI, VIIRS, MSI, OLCI. consistency analysis showed performance different sensors was comparable, sensitivity demonstrated could resist certain degree input disturbance remote sensing reflectance. Compared existing ocean-aimed schemes, can distinguish more mesotrophic eutrophic classes. Furthermore, highly compatible with other taxonomies, trophic state index, multivariate absorption combinations, Forel-Ule Scale, which indirectly potential applicability U-OWT. This finding also helpful further conversion unification taxonomies. As fundamental basis, be applied oceanic fields need explored future.
